Proverbs

We all want wisdom to help us think rightly and make better decisions, but what is wisdom, and how do we get it?

The book of Proverbs is a collection of wise sayings passed down from God-fearing sages passed who desired to equip the next generation of God's people with חָכְמָה (wisdom) for life, and what we see form the book is that the person who is able to put wisdom into practice has a reverent fear and love for God the Father and a love for his people. The only One who has ever walked the earth with perfect love for God and his people is Jesus. Proverbs is about living in harmony with God’s creative and redemptive work, and because Christ alone is Creator and Redeemer and Finisher of God's redemptive work, Proverbs is ultimately about living in the wisdom of God revealed in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 4, shows the love of a father telling the next generation of God's people how to live well (4b), to be at peace (16), to not stumble and suffer because of foolish choices (19), to experience healing spiritually and mentally (22), to be focused (25), and to have stability throughout their lives (26). He says the key to living in this way is by growing in wisdom, because it is only through wisdom that we can navigate life well.

As we listen to the father's words, we will begin to understand our need for wisdom and determine to get it, and as we walk on this wise path that the father has established, his wisdom will be revealed in and through us.
