As followers of Christ, baptism has far more reaching implications than simply a person being submerged in water. By believers participating in baptism, they are revealing their union with Christ, their union with his Church and separation from this world, and their desire to be obedient to what Christ has called them to.

 

Jesus said to his disciples, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matt. 28:18–20)

In Matthew 5:13-16, Jesus explains who is disciples are in him and what they will be like because of his work. Christ's disciples are to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. The question for true Christians is not necessarily what is the truth of Jesus, but what are we going to do with the truth of Jesus?
